Stoppage of the race / cancellation of the race
Dear participants
We would like to share with you our statement in terms of the happenings over the last 3 days and particularly of the race closure of July 7, 2012 at 00.30 hours.
The capricious weather situation has already been forcing us to reschedule the start and became more and more critical towards the night. Intense precipitations, drop of temperature to 0° C and fog did not only cause poor track conditions and problems in orientation but there was also a potential danger of hypothermia for the participants. In this situation, the race closure, was the accurate decision!
After the race was stopped, the organization mobilized all available resources, in this unfavorable condition, in order to safly lead back all runners to the centres of St.Moritz and Bergün. This was only possible thanks to the prudential, peerless and particular effort of the route, transport and rescue services as well as the centers staff. They merit our highest appreciation and deepest respect. Due to the huge effort of this involved staff, the rescue services ressources where not covered any longer and therfore did not permit a secure and reasonable execution of the T71 and T21 races.
We are fully concient that in future this is not a reason for a cancellation anymore. We are very sorry for the lack of organization!
For consolation we grant all participants of the T71 and T21 a free entry for at this year's Swissalpine on July 28th and on the T71 and T21 on August 23rd – 25th, 2013.
We are afraid had to learn that not all inscribed participants met the high requirements of a T201 and T141 race. Despite this fact, some did not wear appropriate clothing! In the future we will look into an introduction of a qualifying system for the participation!
